VIPER Mill Technology
The new patented VIPER® Mill is a proven, reliable technology that significantly reduces operating cost and improves emissions control of dry sorbent injection (DSI) systems. VIPER Mill technology reduces sorbent particle size to enhance removal of SO2, SO3 and HCl.
The VIPER Mill is capable of processing up to 7 tons per hour of sorbent on a 24/7 basis. In a typical SO2 removal application, the VIPER Mill can reduce sorbent usage by 30-50%. In SO3 removal applications, the ultra small sorbent particle size helps to achieve aggressive ppm targets while reducing usage up to 50%. A single VIPER Mill can reduce sorbent costs by over $3 million annually compared to other DSI Systems.

What sorbents will the VIPER Mill process?[+]
The VIPER Mill is primarily used for trona or sodium bicarbonate and either sorbent can be used interchangeable without any changes to the mill, motor or cleaning system.
What is the capacity of the different mill models?[+]
The only difference between the different mill models is the motor size which is selected based on the maximum sorbent throughput necessary. The 100hp model can process up to 2 tons per hour; the 125hp model can process up to 4 tons per hour; and the 150hp model can process up to 7 tons per hour.
How do you clean the mill?[+]
The mill is cleaned most easily with the patent pending ,automated water cleaning system sold as part of the skidded mill system package. Both trona and sodium bicarbonate dissolve easily in water so very small volumes of water are used to completely clean the inside of the mill. The automated process does not require any operator input and goes through four primary steps:
1.) Takes the system off line and diverts unmilled material wither around the mill or to a stand by mill system
2.) Washes the mill and diverts the waste water to a sump for disposal
3.) Dries the mill using heated air to expedite the drying process
4.) Brings the system back on line and redirects the unmilled sorbent into the mill
How does it compare to other mills on the market?[+]
The VIPER Mill provides the smallest particle size and largest throughput capability of any single pass, mechanical mill on the market. This combination enables end users to get the most efficient sorbent usage while also providing the fewest pieces of equipment and conveying lines. Although air classifying mills provide finer particle sizes, the mills are incompatible with requirements utility applications because of the extremely high volume of conditioned air necessary to support the milling process.
What particle size will it achieve?[+]
The VIPER Mill will reduce typical unmilled trona to a median particle size (d50) of ≤15microns and industrial grade sodium bicarbonate (d50 of 150-180 microns) to a d50 of ≤20microns. Our testing shown that 5 micron difference in the d50 can equate to >20% difference in sorbent usage.
What is the payback period?[+]
Though this can vary based on each application, the payback period is typically less than one year.
